Stonks is a personal portfolio-tracking and analytics tool operated by an individual. This policy explains what data we handle and how.
Information we collect
- Account info — the email and password (hashed) you register with.
- Portfolio data — tickers, positions, cost basis, and any notes you enter.
- Brokerage data — if you connect a brokerage, we receive read-only positions and transaction history via SnapTrade. We never receive your brokerage login credentials, and we cannot place trades.
How we use it
- To display your portfolio, performance, tax estimates, and AI-generated summaries.
- We do not sell your data or share it for advertising.
Third-party services
- SnapTrade — brokerage connectivity (read-only).
- Financial Modeling Prep — market data (quotes, fundamentals).
- Anthropic — AI-generated portfolio summaries; portfolio context is sent to generate digests.
Data storage & security
Data is stored in a private database. Sensitive tokens are encrypted at rest. Access is protected by authentication.
Your choices
You can disconnect a brokerage at any time. Disconnecting removes your synced positions, transaction history, and the brokerage connection itself. Realized-gain records already imported into your tax view are kept (so your tax history stays intact); deleting your account erases everything.
You can delete your account and all associated data yourself at any time from your account settings — this also disconnects any linked brokerage. You can also reach us via the contact form for any data request.
